  Wow, major practice with sparklers as a kid or something. Would be hard to make that read-able while focusing on the cherry. I’ll bet he wasn’t actually smoking while getting the shot.

  More than likely he started at the S, spelling it normally, then reversed the pic in PS. Bonus points for him if I’m wrong on both those.

  Still a great shot either way.

  Looking at the logo on his shirt, this shot wasn’t reversed. Nice! Man that is seriously hard to do. Writing backwards in the air and it’s still read-able lol.

  What you have to do is get a camera with adjustable shutter speed, set it for a very low speed, and hold the lighter on as you spell the word in the air.

  It’s simple enough to do, just set a camera for a like a 1-2 second exposure and wave around something bright. Takes a little practice, and really helps to have a friend to take the pic.

  It is a cool pic. Was the image flipped or were you able to write it backwards? Looks awesome either way!
  Nick- digital camera is not required, just a knowledge of photography.

  Nick, you don’t need a digital camera, you can use a film camera if you want to the only important part is the shutter speed.

  It works with a film camera as well. Long exposure was actually invented using a film camera. You either set the exposure to a very long time (like 1 or 2 seconds), or use the manual override some cameras have (i.e. the aperture stays open as long as your finger is on the shutter).

  This definitely can be done.
  One of my classmates did a picture just like this, minus the bong since it was in high school, for a class assignment. It’s really simple.
  Not photoshop.
